Keep drive, drift, and boost separate
Space and Shift do different jobs. Space makes a slide easier to hold; Shift spends boost to accelerate. Learn the turn without boost first so you can feel when the car begins to travel sideways.
| Key | Action | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| W / Up | Accelerate | Build speed before initiating a slide |
| S / Down | Brake, then reverse | Slow an approach or back away from an obstacle |
| A/D / Left/Right | Steer | Choose the curve and correct your exit |
| Space | Drift | Reduce grip while moving through a turn |
| Shift | Boost | Carry speed into a clear stretch |
| R / Escape | Reset / pause | Recover a stuck car or open the menu |
Try this first-round drill
- Choose Quick Play and accelerate into an open part of the arena. Look for a broad turn with a clear exit, away from a wall or bumper.
- Hold one steering direction and briefly add Space. Watch the car’s path as well as its nose: during a drift they point in different directions.
- Release Space as the car faces the exit. Reduce steering so grip can bring the car back onto a forward line. If you keep turning too long, you will circle instead of leaving the corner.
- Repeat in the opposite direction. Once both exits feel predictable, use a short Shift boost after straightening and enter another broad drift.
Why a controlled slide earns more
Drift scoring needs movement: holding Space almost stationary will not build a useful score. Sustained drifting at speed builds the combo, while speed and slide angle affect the points you earn. Watch the score and combo while making small steering changes to find a turn you can repeat.
Scoring drifts refill boost. A useful rhythm is to drift through a broad curve, straighten, spend some boost, and return to another slide. Boost pads give you another way to regain momentum, but approach them with an exit already chosen.
Bumps against live opponents can add points and knock cars around. Treat them as opportunities along your route. Chasing one car across the arena can consume the round while you stop building your own drift score.
Fix the slide before adding stunts
- Spinning in a tight circle: shorten your Space hold and ease the steering earlier. Try a wider turn with more room for the exit.
- Boosting into a wall: save Shift until the car’s travel direction is clear. A straight-looking nose does not mean the sideways momentum has gone.
- Losing the route on a ramp: learn the ground-level approach first. The arena also has a bridge, a carousel, and a loop road; you can explore them after one controlled round.
- Stuck against scenery: brake or reverse to make space, or press R to reset. Then restart your drift in an open yard.
Give the next round a clear target
The result shows score, best combo, bumps, and resets. For your next attempt, aim for one longer controlled combo or fewer resets. That gives you something specific to practice beyond simply pressing boost more often.
